چکیده

The accuracy and stability of the atmospheric wet path delay as measured by the microwave radiometer onboard ERS-2 is crucial to altimetric measures of sea-level change. In this study a GPS receiver on an oil platform in the North Sea is first used to quantify the ERS-2 radiometic wet path delay for the period 1999-2003. The observed discrepancies between the GPS results and the radiometer motivate an extended study utilising a network of 13 IGS stations operational for 1995 through to the present day. The GPS wet path delays are converted to an equivalent brightness temperature on the 23.8GHz channel and used in a subsequent analysis to determine a correction formula. The new formulism is validated by utilising coldest and mean tempertures for each ERS-2 cycle 1-85.

Assessment of the Asar Sensor Radiometric Quality in Comparison to Ers-2 and Radarsat-1 Sar Data

The estimation of geophysical parameters from SAR data necessitates well calibrated sensors with good radiometric precision. In this paper, the radiometric calibration of ASAR/ENVISAT sensor was assessed by comparing ASAR data with ERS-2 and RADARSAT-1 SAR data. With regard to recent data, acquired at the end of 2005, the difference varies from -0.72dB to +0.72dB, with temporal variations that ...

Ra-2/mwr Cross-calibration and Validation: Objectives, Approach, Results and Recommendations

ENVISAT carries a new generation radar altimeter (RA-2) and a microwave radiometer (MWR). RA-2 provides improved measurement performances and many new capabilities, which will benefit the science and application community. With almost two decades of altimetric measurements acquired by ESA, long-term evolution of parameters playing a key role in climate change can be addressed. This requires hom...

A FPGA Based Range Delay Active Radar Calibrator

This study reports design an active radar calibrator (ARC) that produces equal spacing point target responses that serve as control points for both geometric and radiometric calibrations. The delay is digitally controlled implemented by FPGA. Specification and performance of the digital ARC were tested on C-band ERS-2 SAR image. From the experimental results, the FPGA circuit can produce one to...

Analysis and Inter-Calibration of Wet Path Delay Datasets to Compute the Wet Tropospheric Correction for CryoSat-2 over Ocean

Unlike most altimetric missions, CryoSat-2 is not equipped with an onboard microwave radiometer (MWR) to provide wet tropospheric correction (WTC) to radar altimeter measurements, thus, relying on a model-based one provided by the European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). In the ambit of ESA funded project CP4O, an improved WTC for CryoSat-2 data over ocean is under developmen...
